Canberra's Redwood Forest, Pialligo is the largest redwood forest in Australia. The forest was planted in 1920's and was the idea of Canberra's architect - Walter Burley Griffin - part of his plan for a garden city for Canberra. The forest was originally planted with 122,000 trees and today there is about 3,00 trees left in the park. The redwood is not well suited to Canberra's hot summers and many trees have suffered during drought periods. The Pialligo Redwood Forest is registered on the Commonwealth Heritage List.
