The Prime Minister, Mr J B Chifley and the Duchess of Gloucester arriving for the National Thanksgiving Service at the Australian War Memorial, on the occasion of V J Day, 16th August 1945. Behind the Duchess is Brigadier D Schreiber, and on his left is Rear Admiral L S Bracegirdle, RAN. Standing second from the right, front row, is Vera Nicholson whose son 428765 Flight Sergeant James Arthur Nicholson RAAF (attached to 158 Squadron RAF), was killed during operations over Germany on 31 March 1944.
