The Shannon River in central Tasmania starts at an elevation of 1030m and ends at an elevation of 265m flowing into the River Ouse.

The Shannon River drops around 769m over its 68.1km length.

The Shannon River flows through Great Lake (1033m) and Shannon Lagoon (1021m) on its way to joining the River Ouse.

6 creeks and rivers flow into the Shannon River. The five longest tributaries are: Blackburn Creek, Synnots Creek, Ripple Creek, Wihareja Creek and Hunterston Rivulet - click here for a full list of all 6 tributaries of the Shannon River.
