The Paterson River in east New South Wales starts below Mount Barrington at an elevation of 935m and ends near Iona at an elevation of 2.39m merging with the Hunter River.

The Paterson River drops around 933m over its 151km length.

The Paterson River flows through Lostock Dam (161m) on its way to joining the Hunter River.
