The Roper River in the north of the Northern Territory starts below Mount Solitary at an elevation of 126m and ends merging with the Phelp River.

The Roper River drops around 126m over its 1010km length.

The Roper River flows through Red Lily Lagoon (104m), Bulbul Waterhole (93m) and Gambana Waterhole (39m) on its way to joining the Phelp River.

17 creeks and rivers flow into the Roper River. The five longest tributaries are: Hodgson River, Wilton River, Flying Fox Creek, Maiwok Creek and Strangways River - click here for a full list of all 17 tributaries of the Roper River.
