Penguin is located just off the Bass Highway in north Tasmania a distance of about 220km north-northwest from Hobart (show me). With a population of around 2,900, Penguin is a medium sized town for Australia. Penguin is about 15m above sea level. The nearest ocean is the Southern Ocean about 110km west-southwest of Penguin.

Penguin is on the Penguin Creek.

The nearest more populous place is the town of Ulverstone which is 11km away with a population of around 9,500 (show me a map with Penguin and Ulverstone).
