You'll find Higgins Hut just off the Tamboritha Road high up in the mountains in south Victoria. Nearby mountains include Mount Tamboritha (1506m), Dry Hill (1381m), Scrubby Hill (1624m), Little Tamboritha (1470m), Dingo Hill (1435m) and Mount Reynard (1707m). Higgins Hut is about 160km east-northeast of Melbourne (show me). At about 1281m above sea level, Higgins Hut is the sixth highest hut in Victoria. The nearest sea is the Tasman Sea which is part of the South Pacific Ocean about 100km southeast of Higgins Hut.

Higgins Hut is located within the Alpine National Park. There are 44 other huts within the Alpine National Park: Batty Hut, Bivouac Hut, Blair Hut, Bluff Hut, Bogong Jack Hut, Bon Accord Hut, Bon Accord Spur Hikers Camp, Bungalow Spur Hikers Camp, Cairn Creek Hut, Cleve Cole Memorial Hut, Cope Hut, Cope Saddle Hut, Dibbin Hut, Edmondson Hut, Faithful Hut, Federation Hut, Fitzgerald Hut, Gardiners Hut, Guys Hut, Howitt Hut, J B Plain Hut, Johnston Hut, Johnstons Hut, Kelly Hut, Kellys Hut, King Hut, Langfords Gap Hut, Lovicks Hut, MUMC Hut, Maddison Hut, McNamara Hut (Buckety Plain Hut), McNamara Hut (Dinner Plain Hut), Michell Hut, Miller Hut, Pretty Valley Hut, Quintet Mine Huts, Ritchie Hut, Roper Hut, Six Mile Hut, Tawonga Huts, Wallace Hut, Weston Hut, Wilkinson Lodge and Young Hut.

Higgins Hut is on the Shaw Creek.
