Select another page | 1 | 2 | Next  | 1 - School of Arts building, Charleville, 1898 (Contributed by: QldPics) School of Arts building was situated in Wills Street, Charleville and destroyed by fire in 1898. The building is of timber construction, having weatherboards for the exterior walls, double hung casement windows, and a steep pitched roof with a skillion roof over the verandah on the top floor. A small decorated roof gable is set into the front facing the street and corrugated iron has been used as a roofing cover. If so, Report it |  | 2 - Fitz-Walter & Co store in Charleville, 1898 (Contributed by: QldPics) Front view of the Fitz-Walter & Co store at Charleville. The low set timber construction has wide verandah with wooden verandah posts and some decorative fretwork above and a corrugated iron roof is the covering. Standing in front the store are shop workers and customers. 'Beilby' adds: Note the wooden panels around the trunk of the cedar tree - to protect it from the goats. If so, Report it |  | 3 - Charleville Brewery, ca. 1898 (Contributed by: QldPics) Charleville's only brewery established by Albert Aischiman in the 1890s on the West Bank of the Warrego River, Charleville. A timber barn style construction with external walls covered by weatherboards and a corrugated iron roof cover the building. Charleville is the largest town in South West Queensland and has a population of approximately 3300 people. It is a rich pastoral area and was first explored by Edmund Kennedy in 1847. Charleville was named by Surveyor W. Tully for his hometown in Ireland. Cobb and Co established their largest and longest running coach making factory in Charleville in 1886 and the railway line was connected from Brisbane in 1888. Charleville was one of the first airports used by Qantas to fly paying passengers to Longreach in 1922. It is also home to the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the Charleville School of the Air.

If so, Report it |  | 5 - Armstrong's Boiling Down Works, Charleville, 1898 (Contributed by: QldPics)
In 1885 J. Armstrong established a butchering trade in Charleville. As an extension to this he established this boiling down works ca. 1886. The property was purchased from Campbell Brothers. In ca. 1902 the boiling works were turned into a wool scour. Today the site is occupied by the BP Depot. (Description supplied with photograph)
There are several buildings forming the meat works. A rack with meat hanging from it can be seen between the buildings. Men, horses and a wagon are pictured in front of the buildings.
