The Macalister River in south Victoria starts below Mount Howitt at an elevation of 1550m and ends at an elevation of 14.3m merging with the Thomson River.

The Macalister River drops around 1530m over its 177km length.

The Macalister River flows through Lake Glenmaggie (82m) on its way to joining the Thomson River.

15 creeks and rivers flow into the Macalister River. The five longest tributaries are: Wellington River, Caledonia River, Barkly River, Glenmaggie Creek and Serpentine Creek - click here for a full list of all 15 tributaries of the Macalister River.
