Redfern is a suburb of south Sydney in east New South Wales and has a population of around 11,000 (56.1% male, 43.9% female). Around 2115 families live in the area and of those 20.7% have one or more children under the age of 15. 14.8% of families have only a single parent while 58.7% of couples have no children. Redfern covers an area of approximately 120 hectares (298 acres).

The most common income bracket for people living in Redfern is between $150-$249 per week (14.1% of people). 4.9% have no income and high income earners ($2000 or more per week) account for 5.9% of the population.

Of the 4819 private dwellings in Redfern 13% are owned outright by their occupiers, 24% are being purchased (eg. by mortgage) and 58% are being rented.
