The building was designed in Italian Renaissance style by the architect J.J. Clark. If so, Report it |  | 4 - Men clearing debris under the Victoria Bridge during the 1896 Brisbane flood (Contributed by: QldPics) Floodwaters in the Brisbane River during the second week of February, 1896, were so strong as to cause fears that the temporary wooden structure (opened 7 September 1893) might collapse. Gangs of men were set to clear the debris accumulating around the bridge piles. By 15 February 1896, the bridge was safe, although a number of piles were broken, causing the bridge to sag.
