See: The Queenslander, 14 April, 1927, p. 5; and also 'The Rose Ball at New Farm', The Courier-Mail, 8 April, 1927, p. 26. According to The Queenslander, owners of the new woolstore were the A. M. L. & F. Company, and the building was 'the largest of its kind in the world, covering some 3 acres of land'.
The Courier-mail states 'the area employed for the ballroom was 16,000 square feet, or three times the size of the Crystal Palace'. The Royal couple were received at the entrance, and conducted then to the ballroom, where they passed into a large reserved space round which were arranged rows of chairs for the other guests. Decorations included large flags and palms. Tall palms concealed the supporting pillars. Rose and green were the only colours employed (Description supplied with photograph).
