Pormpuraaw is a coastal village on the Musgrave Strathgordon Road in northwest Queensland. Its closest capital city is actually Darwin (show me) in the Northern Territory about 1200km to the west-northwest (the capital of Queensland is Brisbane (show me), about 1830km away to the southeast of Pormpuraaw). Pormpuraaw has a population of around 650 and is one of the smaller towns in Australia. Pormpuraaw is about 9m above sea level. Pormpuraaw is one of the northernmost villages in Queensland.
